We (P.A.A.S) do not take in any strays or owner surrenders. P.A.A.S. works closely with the City of Vinita to assist them with the stray animals that the animal control officer picks up, P.A.A.S. cannot take in these animals. If you found a stray animal please contact your nearest police department. Please note animal control of Vinita's weekend/days off is Wednesday and Thursday.
If you pick up a stray whether that be inside or outside of city limits you are assuming RESPONSIBILITY for that said animal once it enters your car, home, ect.. Meaning you are now responsible for that animal.
We understand it’s sad to see strays roaming but the safest and easiest thing for everyone is to call your local animal control and report it immediately especially if you cannot keep that animal. Picking up stray animals can often lead to bites as the animal is already afraid and doesn’t know the person it is now trapped in a car with. Please be safe and just report the animal to animal control or you local PD.
Please do not pick up animals that you see roaming unless you know you can commit to that animal. Sometimes it causes other animals to lose a spot in the shelter that desperately need the help.
Heres how to help without taking in a stray animal:
Provide food and Water
Take photos and post to social media with when and where the animal was found
Let your local PD or animal control officer know
Surrendering your pet:
We at P.A.A.S. understand that life happens. However we cannot take in any owner surrenders as we are not animal control and only the animal control officer is allowed to do so.
If you are facing hardship with your pet please reach out to us, as we may be able to help you keep your animal in your home with you.
